Dust Warfare

So we decided to play some Dust Warfare today as Mark wanted to get a handle on the rules. Rob and I rocked out a 200pt game to get acquainted with the rules again and show Mark how it’s done.
Rob fielded his SSU with few of his new units. Sorry, I can’t remember what Rob was fielding. I think it consisted of Koshka in Grand’ma along with a mix of Russian and Chinese infantry units (4 in total I think), a Tesla gun team, one of the SSU weapons platforms and a Commissar.
My Axis force consisted off the following:
Dust Warfare - Force Builder
Faction: Axis ( 200 / 200 )

--- Blutkreuz Platoon (200)
Upgrade: Implacable (15)
Command Section: Sturmpioniere (25)
1st Section: "Braineaters" Übertoten Assault Squad (24)
2nd Section: Battle Grenadiers (17)
3rd Section: Heavy Recon Grenadiers (30)
4th Section: Recon Grenadiers (17)
Support: MPW II-B "Ludwig" (40)
Support: LPW I-A "Heinrich" (20)
Support: Sniper Grenadier Team (12)

The table set-up:

Dust Warfare deployment

My rolling is terrible and Rob ends up getting initiative. His weapons platforms and support weapon aims to anchor the centre, whilst the sneaky Russian and Chinese infantry try to head down the flank. My Ludwig takes one look at the weapons platform, smiles at the easy prey and lets rip…. only to be destroyed in 2 turns by said weapons platform! Never underestimate your opponent…

Ludwig lines up SSU weapons platform  SSU weapons platform after round 1

The end result, 1 destroyed Ludwig

Things aren’t looking good for the Axis with units being chopped up all over the place. Although…. we realised later that we’d been playing the cover rules wrong and Rob’s “sniper’s” had been just a little tooooo powerful than they should have been!! His units with dudes armed with the SSU sniper rifle aren’t actually snipers, i.e. don’t ignore cover! (The Axis powers claim a moral victory at this point :) )

Grand’ma hits the flank and starts to thin out the dreaded Axis Zombies, but their panzerfausts certainly put a dent into her though.

Axis Zombies start to get a little thinned out by Grand'ma  Heinrich scarpers as Grand'ma comes round the flank

Eventually though, the range of the Axis weapons start to take their toll. What had been looking precarious is slowly turned around as Rob’s favourite Axis unit…. the Heavy Recon Grenadiers deal to a couple units with the support of Heinrich.

All in all, a close game and Rob ended up conceding with only a couple of units left and my last walker and heavy troops on the prowl.

Some good lessons/reminders on the rules. Especially the cover rules (it’s an auto save, not an additional die for trying make saves). That makes quite a bit of difference.

And I really need to get some painting done :)

As for taking photos…. was good to have a go at gaming photos again. I think I need to work on my focal length and close-ups. A few of the photos aren’t that well focused, but probably because I’m also not clear of what it was that I was trying to capture.

Random game photo close-up….

Mark and Phil used the same force to play a game after us. Lee popped round to catch-up the rest of the afternoon was spent checking out photos of Rob’s recent adventures in Indonesia and learning some new things about Photoshop.

First Post

Post number 1! Yay.... but why I am doing this? I don't know.... :)

My thinking is that rather than spamming facebook with photos and since I don't really like facebook anyway... then I figured actually creating a blog (just like everyone else) might be the way to go.

What I'm really hoping is that by blogging about my journey on photography will actually help me to remember what I'm learning since I have a terrible habit of not writing things down. The intent will be to post photos and the camera settings as a reference.

But... a regularly updated blog is always a good blog. So no doubt it will quickly be filled up with gaming reports and views on tactics :)

And maybe some fitness stuff too...

Anyway. Here is some of the sorts of photos I've taken so far (and no, I have no idea what the camera settings were.....)

These were all taken out Muriwai one Saturday afternoon in August. We picked a great day as the sunset was perfect for a few pics....
