One of the rarer posts to be seen on my blog....

A painting post!!! :-)

German reinforcements for Bolt Action have arrived. One unit of which will get me called all sorts of names ;-)

Overall I'm okay with the paintwork. It has been too long between units that I've painted, so things got a bit messy as I had to re-learn / remember how I did everything. I may have gotten a little carried away with the weathering and almost had a little accident with the varnishing!

A painting post

I know right!

They're few and far between, but it seems to becoming a bit of a habit for a post to appear in early Jan with some finished mini's :-)

Bolt Action again.

This time, I have finally finished off my panzerfaust armed models, alternate / higher command models, observers, medic and panzerschreck team.

I don't think it's my best work. Too stop / start on getting these guys done over far too long a period.... i.e. the course of the last year or so.

Not painting for a very long time shows. Still, they're done and they're okay for the tabletop.

Oh... and I really need to throw away my home made light box and get a proper one!

I was trying to find the original post where I posted a picture of all the models assembled and undercoated along with some boast on when they would be finished.

Well, it seems to be so old that I can't find it!

2000 odd points of Germans does look pretty good all painted though...

A few more mini's to go, but ones rarely used... flamethrowers (yes, I have two :-) ), a couple more observer options and..... 30 more infantry as I couldn't resist that very sexy box of plastic grenadiers released by Warlord a while ago.

I would also like to do a little more tidy up on the infantry such as painting the collars / epaulets etc, but realistically, I'm not sure the time to do it will be there.

Oh and I have a very special turret option on the way for my Panzer IV. My gaming mates are going to hate me for getting it :-)

They can wait though (apart from the turret - that's getting painted as soon as it arrives!). It's time for a break from painting Germans I think. Next up Saga and everything is now primed ready to go. Lets see how long this one takes....

Bolt Action Gun Teams Painted!

Yep, you read the title correctly - painted!

It's been a long time since my last painting post. Seems the holiday period around Christmas gives me enough time to finish some models that I tend to spend most of the year chipping away at.

This year was particularly hard as I basically couldn't paint for about 5 months due to a wrist injury. I'm not entirely sure on the finished teams as it felt awkward painting again. It feels like I was somewhat heavy handed when trying to do the final highlights / detailing. (The Pak40, Nebelwerfer and 75.cm IG had all been completed at the same time as my Bolt Action vehicles).

Still, they're done and ready for the table :)

Just a few models to go and my 1000pt list will be complete!

Pak 40 -

I tried doing something a bit different basing wise (camo netting etc) with the Pak 40. This is similar to what I have done on 15mm models, but am not sure it looks quite right.

Empire of the Dead

Finally!

A post on Empire of the Dead (EotD).

And it's not what you think....

You might want to be sitting down so you don't fall over....

It's actually a painting post! :)

I've finished a few models as testers for EotD. I was going a bit stir crazy painting 28mm German after 28mm German, so the other guys pestered me (and rightly so :) ) to get some models organised for EotD so we can try out a couple of games.

Especially since I splurged quite a bit on the Kickstarter and then on Sarissa / 4Ground terrain..... I got a lot of stuff...

Anyway, I decided to try painting up some basic thugs/criminals to get things underway.

Overall, I don't think it's my best work, but they will do just fine.

The white shirts/trousers look messy, but that might work okay with the time period.

I'm not sure on a couple of the colours I've chosen, so I would be interested to know what colour palettes others have used for EotD models?

Finally, some more work is needed on the glass bottles. I'll keep searching for some tutorials on these.

I've also spotted a few bits that need tidying up after taking a few photos that were a little bit too close up :)

Anyway, any and all feedback welcomed.

Now back to those Germans so I can try and complete a 1000pt Bolt Action force... but mixed in with some more EotD models - I think I definitely need to keep a couple of projects on the go.

And once we work of the Infinity bug, I am sure a few games of EotD will be next.

Bolt Action: Infantry

Just a quick post to show off some more painting that I have recently completed.

Don't panic though, I haven't done anything crazy and got stuck into a whole lot of painting! :)

These guys were close to finished near the end of last year and I've found some time over the last couple of weeks to finally finish them off.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how they've turned out. I've been following Rubén Torregrosa's guide in the first Painting War magazine. Check it out here. It is a very cool guide if you want to paint WW2 German forces!

The next squad and force commander are currently lined up on the painting table now awaiting their turn :)

That gives me 3 squads painted and a number of vehicles. Still have an additional squad (vet's with zeltbahn) and all the gun teams backed up in the painting queue! No rush though :)

Painting! - Bolt Action

Yeap. That's right....  a painting update!

Just to show that I do actually get some models finished from time to time.

This time it is my Bolt Action German vehicles.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how they have turned out apart from a couple of minor annoyances.

To paint them, I used Tamiya paints for the base colours and then used Vallejo to highlight/detail.. I used a mix of Vallejo & AK interactive paints to do the chipping (sponge method) and then the AK heavy mud set for the final weathering. To get the splatter I get a blob of the "mud" on a brush and use an airbrush to spray it off the brush over the mini.

I've also stuck with stock standard German late war 3-tone camo.

So here is what I have done....

For this one, the barrel is just pinned in place. This is so I can swap it for the Stug G barrel. I suspect in time that the barrel will become glued in place as I get annoyed with it wobbling around everywhere... :)

This is the one I am least happy with. I tried a slightly different camo pattern that I saw in one of my reference books, but I think I ballsed it up. Just doesn't look right. Then I got a little carried away with the weathering in places...

Now I just have to finish off the crews. I've also noticed there is some silvering around some of the decals that I will need to tidy up. Hopefully a decent coat of varnish will fix it! So far they have only had a light coat to hold everything in place.

I may add some more touches like foilage branches/camo netting in time, but I think I'm probably better off trying to work on the rest of the infantry instead :)
